For someone who spends a lot of time in front of a camera, Hailee Steinfeld’s beauty routine is surprisingly simple. “Less is more,” she tells me. When it comes to the holidays, however, that’s when the Marvel superhero can really ramp it up. When we meet, Steinfeld is dressed for the season: A crimson head-to-toe look—it’s a two-piece, with a festive choker tied delicately around her neck.
Gift-wrapped boxes can be seen in every corner and a hot chocolate bar awaits guests, complete with toppings ranging from cookies and marshmallows (among other goodies). “Have you seen it out there?” she asks me, excitedly. Turns out, she did one for Thanksgiving, and she’ll be doing it again for Christmas. “I’m really big on a hot chocolate bar this year.”
This holiday, customers can shop deals on more small business products than ever before thanks to Amazon (with new deals dropping all the time). The Oscar-nominated actress, multi-platinum recording musician, and producer is also a business co-owner herself (peep the sunglasses if you haven’t), and loves the idea of shopping from retailers that make sense for your recipient, particularly small businesses. She curated her own holiday gift list on Amazon featuring smaller retailers and things she loves, and I chatted with her about what she’s gifting this season, her go-to skincare products, and her New Year’s resolution.
As far as the holiday season, it’s a very joyful time of year, but also slightly stressful. There’s a lot going on, and perhaps a lot of feelings for some people. What are your kind of self-care routines or how do you like to take care of yourself during this time?
Ooh. I feel like a self-care journey is ever-evolving, especially with this time of year, it is absolutely the most joyful time of year, but can be very stressful because I’m always trying to make sure everything’s taken care of and everything’s running smoothly.
I love hosting, so I feel like I’ve always been a big fan of a self-care spa kit, which is absolutely on my list. But also, self-care, it’s so personal. Whatever you feel works for you is best. For me, it is just like a scented candle and I love a good mug with some hot cocoa in it.

As far as your skincare routine, a lot of self-care for a lot of people. What do you love to do? What are your go-tos?
So less is more for me with a skincare routine, even though I’m a product junkie. I’m the first to just try it all. I get overexcited with all of that, but my skin? Not so much. So less is more for me. I’ve really been into this body oil by Osea
. It’s so incredible. Hydrating makes you feel good. You take those few extra minutes, morning, night. It’s the best.

Is there anything in terms of other beauty products that you’re really loving right now that you’re kind of excited about also? I feel like holiday time is a time of a lot of parties, get-togethers…
Totally. When it comes to my makeup routine specifically, it’s very quick. It’s a few steps, but I do love a great mascara, a good sort of multipurpose lip-cheek-eye moment. But yeah, I keep it pretty simple. One of my go-to things that I’ve been doing, any time I put any amount of makeup on, is a little concealer—or a lot of concealer on the days I call for it. I love going back in with, whether it’s an eyeliner pencil or a liquid liner pen, and going over my beauty marks after I’ve given myself some coverage. I’ve really been loving doing that.
Love that. As far as kind of workout routines, what do you stick to? Do you find it de-stresses you at all?
Well, I feel like a lot of times if I’m traveling, my workout routine honestly depends on what I have around me and on what I have access to. If I can get outside and go for a walk, a 15-minute walk at the very least, I instantly feel more grounded and just more at peace with everything having taken that time. Again, it could be five minutes of sitting outside, stretching, meditating.
As far as a workout routine, I do like to switch it up. I love to work a little cardio in there. I don’t love actually doing it, but I love the way I feel afterward, so I always push myself to do that. I love some circuit training, Pilates, a little yoga, like I said, some stretching. If I could start my day every—okay, this is a New Year’s resolution, we’ll put it all out there—if I could get up every morning and let that be one of the first things I do, just take five to 10 minutes to just stretch and breathe, I feel like I’d be a better human.

You and me both. In terms of holiday gifts, what are you excited to gift? Or what’s kind of your go-to gift for when you don’t know what to gift?
When I don’t know what to get, I always find that anything custom or sentimental is a really good option. I’m so happy to be here because I’m a huge fan of a good gift guide, so this was very hard for me to put together and narrow down. But I love that. I feel like I have this gift guide that I’ve created myself. There are so many things on here that I can’t wait to get for my friends and family — a little self-care spa kit, a big cozy blanket, some good mugs, or any barware I think is really fun. A good charcuterie board? You cannot go wrong with that. But yeah, things that you can customize a bit, I think that’s always a really fun thing.
Is there any kind of holiday tradition that you typically do?
Stocking stuffers are a big thing in my family. I always feel like it’s not a competition, but it kind of is a competition about who can get and give the better stocking stuffers. But that’s a really big thing in my family, and I love doing that for friends too.
Is there anything else that you feel like you do every single year around this time of year? Like, for me, I like to get myself a little gift as well — a treat.
I do love to give anything that sort of encourages relaxation and so those things I’ll grab for myself, too — a good pair of cozy slippers or a new set of pajamas. I’m with you on that. I like to kind of grab something for myself.
